Note from the Organiser

This year I have been trying to think out of the box. With numbers having dwindled over the past 4 years, it is time to breath some life back into this show. As a participant in 2012 and 2013, then taking it over in 2014, I had always wanted to give this show the boost it needed. I remember it as a great and exciting show, so I want to bring back that feeling this year with a ‘celebrating summer’ theme to get us all in the mood for summer!

Rules

Before we get into the exciting bits, let’s just cover some ground rules!

1. Participants may enter a maximum of 3 horses per class
2. Riders may either dress in smart dressage attire (jackets may be any colour) or costume. No casual attire, ie t-shirts and jeans, and if you are using costume, you must be able to tell. Riders MUST wear helmets.
3. Extra images are not mandatory but always lovely to see and count towards the Grand Champion title. I have tried to create lots of RP opportunities!
4. Realistic and fantasy breeds allowed, powers may be used but will not gain any advantage
5. Points will be deducted for not following individual class rules
8. Horse name, Rider name and stable name along with links to any extras must be included in the description of your entry picture
9. Age requirements for horses are listed in the class descriptions
10. Previous experience required for any of the classes must be linked in the entry's description. Points will be lost if I have to go look for it
11. Ear nets are permitted in EVERY CLASS for spooky horses to muffle the noise from the bustle of competition.

Information

This year, the summer dressage show is a 2 day event. It takes place on Saturday 9th July and Sunday 10th July.

Theme

If you’ve been paying attention so far, you’ll already know our theme this year is ‘Celebrating Summer’!
Add a little something extra to your entry by maybe decorating your horses, dressing up your rider(s) or maybe just creating a summer atmosphere.

Location

The show is located in a big field on Oak Brooke’s Property, next to the loch.

The long side of the main dressage arena runs alongside the loch with the other side, and further back than you can see on the map, is a big gazebo with both long sides open to allow a stream of people to go between watching the main arena and the shopping area. There is also some seating available for spectators who do not want to stand beside the arena or sit on the grass.

On the map you can also see the warm up ring, available to all participants. Further back from that is the temporary stabling available for all horses and the camping area. Participants may either stay overnight in a tent in the camping area, which has a big open fire and the opportunity for some night time fun(!), or in their lorries. All horses must stay in the temporary stabling and not in lorries. There will be strip grazing available for all participants.

To help the atmosphere at the show, there will also be a shopping village. This is available by going through the big gazebo and into a big ‘square’ of trade stands. More information on trade stands is given later.

There are no specifics for many of the locations as I want it to remain open to your imagination but think lots of colours, bunting and music!

The dressage arena has grass underfoot. A, where the horses enter, is situated on the short side nearest the warm up arena. The grass is short, and if you are one of the latter competitors there may be some mud visible on the track. The panelling and letters are like the picture below, but you may choose any colour of flowers you wish, to fit in with your colour scheme.

If you have any further questions about location, just post in the comments!

Class 4: Future Stars

This is an inhand class for yearlings and 2 year olds. It takes place in the main dressage arena and will be judged by Elly based on your youngstock’s paces and manner. 2 year olds may be asked to lunge so she can judge canter, but all others will just be walked and trotted inhand. Handler must be present in picture.

Class 5: Sun-sational Duet

Pas de Deux class, 2 horses and riders performing a test of any level to music. No previous experience necessary.

Class 6: Airs and Graces

Class for those horses who enjoy haute ecole! Riders may be mounted or unmounted. Put on a show! No previous experience necessary.

Class 7: Cavaletti Until You Drop

The dressage version of Puissance! Puissance is all about how high can you jump, cavaletti until you drop is all about how many cavaletti you can do in a row! It’s a knock-out competition and you only get one shot! Starts with 4 cavaletti and they are added until there is only 1 horse and rider combination left! Horses must be at least 4 years old. Leg protection is a MUST.

Mounted Games

Ever seen a dressage horse do mounted games? No? Well I can assure you it is very funny! Polish up your vaulting and come join a team and have fun. There will be all sorts of games, so you can draw your combination doing whatever game you would like. Allocate yourself to a team with a coloured arm band: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. The team with the most pictures will be crowned the winner!

BBQ

The BBQ takes place on the Saturday and everyone is welcome. There will be all sorts on the menu, with marshmallow toasting over the open campfire for after. After the marshmallow toasting there will be some fun campfire games, alcohol and a party leaving you to dance the night away!
